Essex & Suffolk Border League Round Up 5th February 2022.

Pride of place in the Premier Division goes to Chris Hudson’s Earls Colne FC who has exceeded expectations in winning four consecutive matches, and without conceding a goal in each of the games. Are the halcyon days returning to the Green Farm Meadow?

It’s understood that Chairman, Robin Bragg is wearing a broad smile doubtless remembering the club’s major success 40 years ago when they beat Parkeston Railway FC to the Premier League Title.

It seems a while since ‘Colne’ were achieving such consistency, and currently occupy sixth place in the table. Ross Debrick and Luis Welton both found the net twice. Next up will be the visit to the Memorial Ground, to take on Little Oakley FC Reserves who took a good point at White Notley FC.

Oliver Mann scored the home goal at School Lane with the equaliser notched home by Taylor McAndrews.

It was business as usual for leaders Stanway Pegasus FC who had to fight hard for their 2-0 win at Strangers Corner where they beat Colne Athletic FC. George Barron and Gianni Sabini did the damage.

A surprise result saw Chelmsford City FC Reserves complete the double over in form but depleted, visitor’s, West Bergholt FC who were losing only their third game in the league, and remain chasing Stanway Pegasus FC trailing by six points, but have played three games more.

As for ‘City Reserves’ it was a welcome 4-1win at Melbourne Park to move three points behind ‘Bergholt’ with a game in hand. Elliott Howson hit two and Alfie Gilbey and Samuel Wade completed the scoring.

Sudbury Sports FC overwhelmed the much troubled, Gas Recreation FC, crushing the Bromley Road, side 12-1. The Colchester based club have, and continue to have significant difficulties, but gain credit for continuing under extreme circumstances.

There was a hat trick from Harvey Rawlinson and two each by Louie Arnold, Bobby Badham, Liam White, Liam Pearce, and a brace from James Eveleigh to move ahead of ninth placed Barnston AFC.

Dunmow Town FC took home the points on their away trip to Hatfield Peverel FC winning 3-1 with goals from James Cowler and Jake Buckland who hit two, with Tom White striking the consolation goal.

It was a disappointing day for Tiptree Heath FC who exited the Essex Premier Cup quarter-final tie against Woodford East FC 5-2. They just could not get going and were handicapped being reduced to 10 men in the second half.

In contrast there was good news in the Suffolk Junior Cup that saw Cavendish FC beat Melton United FC to reach the Semi Final, the draw to be announced.

Silver End United FC have gone to the top of the First Division with a narrow win at the Village Hall beating Stanway Rovers FC U23s 2-1 with goals from Joe Borein and a Mitchell Brown penalty. Harry Thomas responded.

Second placed, Tiptree Jobserve FC went down 2-0 at Stanway Pegasus FC Reserves where Ollie Booth was on target with Adam Shaikly. Meanwhile at The Glebe, Mersea Island FC secured a good point against visiting Gosfield United FC with goals from Ryan Carter and substitute Ethan Ward.

The runaway leaders in Division 2, Brightlingsea Town FC kept up their relentless form overwhelming Hedinghams United FC 10-0. It was the usual suspects who got the goals in the form of an Ashley Sauka hat trick & penalty, and a brace each for Ricky Griggs, Liam Close, and one apiece from Adam Drysdale and Kieron Baker.
