Essex & Suffolk Border League Round Up 29^th January 2022.

Stanway Pegasus FC bowed out of the Essex Premier Cup beaten 2-1 by the strong Essex Olympian League side Catholic United FC at Southend. This was the Border League, Premier leader’s first defeat of the season in what has otherwise been an all-conquering campaign.

The League has one pending quarter final match to be played. Next Saturday Tiptree Heath FC will entertain Woodford East FC who having been beaten by Dunmow Town FC in the previous sound successfully appealed the result, and Dunmow Town FC were eliminated from the competition.

In the Premier Division, West Bergholt FC drew closer to the leaders with an emphatic 3-1 win at Ford Lane beating Alresford Colne Rangers FC, and are now three points behind Stanway Pegasus FC, albeit having played three games more, but six, clear of third placed Chelmsford City FC Reserves who were without a game.

It’s been an impressive season for ‘Bergholt’ having lost a meagre two matches and

seeking a top two finish, goals from Jamie Beecham, Steve Eaton and Daniel Keeble secured the points.

Lawford Lads FC moved off the bottom with a 1-1 draw at School Lane where Sean Lorimer got the goal relegating Felixstowe & Walton United FC U 23s to the basement position. They failed to overcome an Earls Colne FC side enjoying a successive sequence of three wins. Goals from Jack Charnock and Ross Debrick took the points back to Essex, worthy of note in that the visitor’s, were appreciative of the home hospitality.

There was a big win for Tiptree Heath FC beating Dunmow Town FC 5-2 at the Leisure World, Tiptree, the home marksmen were Joe Chester, Kieran Michaels, Cameron Pennick, and a brace from Charlie Green that consolidates their sixth position.

In Division One, there were major surprises as both Stanway Rovers FC U23s relinquished their table topping position, and Belle Vue Social FC were humbled by visiting Harwich & Parkeston FC Reserves for only their second league loss of the season.

As a result, Tiptree Jobserve FC’s 5-4 victory over ’Rovers’ sees them top the table but have played more games than the previous leaders.

Belle Vue Social FC’s defeat at the Corporal Budd VC Gymnasium sees them in fourth place, but with five games in hand on their main rivals ‘Rovers’. The ‘Shrimpers’ scorers were Matt Geen who hit two, and Gary Stanford, and this was their third successive victory to improve their position to mid table.

Harry Ashdown secured the solitary goal for Cressing United FC at struggling Mersea Island FC to keep them in contention for a top three finish.

In Division Two, the leading three Brightlingsea Town FC, Thorpe Athletic FC and Great Bentley FC all won with ‘Town’ hitting nine against luckless Lawford Lads FC Reserves to make it 15 straight victories. The goals flowed from Liam Close, Byron Hatch, Ashley Sauka, two from Keiran Baker and four from player manager Ricky Griggs.

Meanwhile Thorpe Athletic FC enjoyed a solitary goal success at Hedingham United FC to retain their second spot.

In the Reserve Knock – Out Cup there were wins for Brantham Athletic FC ‘A’ and West Bergholt FC Reserves.
