They say life is a roller coaster and judging by some of the results last Saturday, football results are certainly difficult to predict in these early stages of the season and on a day when an almost full fixture list was played out.

Premier Division leaders East Thurrock Community beat Hatfield Peverel, second placed Springfield beat AFC Pegasus Colchester, Cressing beat Sudbury Sports to move above Thorpe Athletic who lost against Tiptree Heath, Gas Recreation won by a solitary goal over Belle Vue Social, Earls Colne were held at home by Dedham Old Boys and in the basement battle White Notley edged out Alresford Colne Rangers by the odd goal in five.

There were six matches in Division One, The Rodings and Little Waltham remain the only unbeaten team in the division, this after beating Frinton & Walton, Gosfield United move up to third after a win against Great Bentley Reserves, neither Lawford Lads nor Clacton Regent could find the net, another draw saw Hatfield Peverel Reserves share four goals with Prettygate. Dovercourt Rovers got their first win of the season, this was a first defeat for Roman Rovers, and Hedinghams United inflicted a fourth straight defeat on FC Clacton Reserves.

Plenty of goals were scored in Division Two, six for Bradfield Rovers (three for Allington) over White Notley Reserves, five for Silver End United over Wormingford Wanderers, four by Cavendish against bottom team Alresford Colne Rangers Reserves, three each for Gas Recreation Reserves and West Bergholt over Boxford Rovers and Springfield Reserves respectively however neither Great Bradfords or Cressing United Reserves troubled the scoresheet.

One match was postponed but four were played in Division Three, Tiptree Jobserve, stay top after hitting five against Silver End United Reserves, there was a welcome win for Brooklands, after three heavy defeats, over Boxted Lodgers, Elmstead Market go third after beating Stillwaters and Great Bentley “A” beat Roman Rovers Reserves.

This week has seen the withdrawal of Lawford Lads Reserves from Division Four, but six matches were played and thirty-seven goals were scored. Leading the way with ten were Frinton & Walton Reserves (three for O’Brien) against Tollesbury, newcomers Rayne scored seven (three for Calvert) to sweep aside Prettygate Reserves, Ramsey & Mistley scored five when beating Elmstead Market Reserves, unbeaten leaders, Roman Rovers “A” also scored five, (three for Aves), this was against Bradfield Rovers Reserves. Kelvedon Social beat Wormingford Wanderer Reserves and finally Hedinghams United Reserves drew with West Bergholt Reserves.

Next weekend sees the start of both the Knock-Out Cup and Reserve Knock-Out Cups.
