ESSEX & SUFFOLK BORDER FOOTBALL LEAGUE

WEEKLY ROUND-UP for 07/01/2023

Grassroots football is back, in the Premier Division, Tiptree Heath and Colne Athletic were the only winners of the top five, Dunmow Town, were held at Dedham Old Boys as were Brantham Reserves at Lawford Lads whereas Earls Colne succumbed at Belle Vue. Mid-table Sudbury Sports had a fine victory away at Alresford whilst at the bottom Harwich & Parkeston Reserves and West Bergholt both lost and prop up the division.

Division One is topped by Brightlingsea Town who scored eight at luckless Holland Reserves on Friday evening, Stanway Pegasus Reserves and Tiptree Jobserve in third and fourth places respectively shared a four-goal draw. Second placed Silver End were on County Cup duty and won handsomely against Hawkwell Athletic, Gosfield United also secured a place in the quarter finals but Thorpe Athletic and St Osyth bowed out.

Dovercourt Rovers march on, that’s twelve league games undefeated, they gave fifth placed Boxted Lodgers only their second league defeat, second placed Tavern remain second.

Great Bentley Reserves still top Division Three but were beaten by mid-table Prettygate whilst Bradfield Rovers comfortably beat bottom team Brantham “A” to remain second and now have a game in hand and superior goal difference.

Roman Rovers and High Roding continue as the pace setters in Division Four, both won again, but the surprise result here was bottom team Hedinghams Reserves beating third placed Ramsey & Mistley a result which leaves Stillwaters on the bottom.

Division Five is headed by the experienced Gas Recreation Reserves who collected their thirteenth straight league win, Egglestone of Boxford Rovers is the league’s leading goal-scorer with twenty-eight goals, his team remain second and Oyster hold third with fourth placed Mersea Island Reserves winning at a canter against bottom team Ramsey & Mistley Reserves.
