On Saturday, the ESBFL Representative team travelled to Feltham, Twickenham, to play “The Arthurian Football League” in Round Two of the FA Inter-League Cup, they had won this trophy two years ago and represented the Uk when playing in Europe, so a tough was game was expected. This proved to be true as the hosts ran out winners by four goals to nil, two defensive errors and a penalty were conceded before half-time and with a fourth team goal in the second half saw the ESBFL well beaten by a very strong team, that said the ESBFL raised their game in the second half and hit the crossbar twice and the posts twice as well!

Back in league action there were just two Premier Division matches, bottom team, Alresford Colne Rangers (three, all penalties, for Balaam), have improved lately and ran out winners over third bottom, Belle Vue Social by five goals to three, second bottom, White Notley went down by a solitary goal at home to AFC Pegasus Colchester.

Division One, leaders, Gosfield United remain strong and despatched Frinton & Walton by four goals to one and in another five-goal game, Roman Rovers got the better of second bottom, Lawford Lads.

Five matches were played in Division Two, Cressing United Reserves beat White Notley Reserves, Springfield Reserves beat Wormingford Wanderers, Silver End United beat Alresford Colne Rangers Reserves, to stay second, Boxford beat Great Bradfords who have yet to win a game, and Cavendish drew with West Bergholt who stay third.

There were victories for Elmstead Market against Boxted Lodgers in Division Three, where Stillwaters overcame bottom team, Brooklands.

Roman Rovers “A” drew level with leaders Frinton & Walton Reserves when beating second bottom Tendring District, Ramsey & Mistley beat Tollesbury, Bradfield Rovers Reserves beat Rayne and Prettygate Reserves beat Elmstead Market Reserves who remain bottom of the pile!

Turning to the cups, there was a quarter-final tie in the Peter Andrews Cup where Hedinghams United eventually beat Tavern, this by five spot kicks to four.

The Reserve Knock-Out cup had reached the semi-finals stage, Great Bentley Reserves beat Hatfield Peverel Reserves by three goals to one, unfortunately the match between Silver End United Reserves and Hedinghams United Reserves was abandoned after just ten minutes due to a player injury.

In Round One of the Richard Degville Cup, Harwich & Parkeston “A” beat Wormingford Wanderers Reserves by five goals to nil, the Round Two match saw Great Bentley “A” beat West Bergholt Reserves by nine goals to one.

The Tommy Thompson Cup also had two matches, a Round Three tie between Frinton & Walton Reserves and Tiptree Jobserve saw the visitors win by four goals to one. The quarter-final tie between Gas Recreation Reserves and Bradfield Rovers was tied at three goals apiece at ninety minutes, there then followed spot kicks, which went to “sudden-death”, with Bradfield Rovers scoring ten to the nine from Gas Recreation Reserves.
