ESSEX & SUFFOLK BORDER FOOTBALL LEAGUE            2025 / 2026

WEEKLY ROUND UP       @       28/02/2026.

The league is not quite back to normal with a handful of matches still falling foul of the weather, maybe next week!

The top of the Premier Division shows no signs of throwing up a champions elect team, five points separate the top four teams, in the early kick-off, leaders, Sudbury Sports lost by two goals to one against second bottom Belle Vue Social who move above White Notley who lost by a solitary goal against mid-table Springfield. Second placed Great Bentley stood idle with their cup match being postponed, that allowed East Thurrock to step up to second place after beating Tiptree Heath by the odd goal in five. Thorpe Athletic consolidated fourth spot with, a two goals to one victory over sixth placed Earls Colne and the final match in the division saw Gas Recreation beat AFC Pegasus Colchester, again by a single goal.

There were five matches in Division One, leaders Gosfield United were without a match but stay five points ahead of The Rodings & Little Waltham who switched venues and played at Hedinghams United whom they beat by the only goal scored. Second placed Clacton Regent were on cup duty and slip to third, but Prettygate beat Roman Rovers to stay fourth, eight points ahead of fifth placed Tavern who beat Lawford Lads. Hatfield Peverel Reserves shared six goals with Frinton & Walton, and tenth placed Great Bentley Reserves scored six (three for Geen), against unpredictable Dovercourt Rovers who remain sixth.

Division Two also had five matches, Bradfield Rovers remain top after despatching Boxford Rovers by four goals to two, Gas Recreation Reserves remain in second place after beating White Notley Reserves and Silver End United stay third after a win against Cressing United Reserves. Suffolk based, Cavendish, hit three goals against Springfield Reserves, and the last match saw Wormingford Wanderers score three against the one from home team Alresford Colne Rangers Reserves.

Tiptree Jobserve scored four goals with none in reply from Boxted Lodgers and stay top of the Division Three, Great Bentley “A” stay third who won by the same score, away, against Elmstead Market. Mersea Island (three for Ellis), beat Wivenhoe United by five goals to three to stay fourth, but they are nine points adrift of the top three teams, mid-table Silver End United Reserves drew two goals apiece against Oyster who remain tenth.

Frinton & Walton Reserves were the days top scorers and are the league’s top goalscorers with eighty-seven goals, this after registering ten goals (four for O’Brien) against rock bottom Elmstead Market Reserves. Second placed Roman Rovers “A” beat Ramsey & Mistley by three goals to one and third placed Hedinghams United Reserves won by three goals to nil against Bradfield Rovers Reserves to open a thirteen-point gap over Kelvedon Social who lost by a single goal against Rayne. Finally, Prettygate Reserves beat their counterparts from West Bergholt this was by four goals to two.

In the Peter Andrews Charity cup, quarter-final tie, Clacton Regent beat local rivals FC Clacton Reserves (three for second half substitute Taylor), by six goals to nil and will play the winners of the outstanding Tavern versus Hedinghams United tie to be played next weekend.

Next Saturday, 7^th March, the ESBFL Representative Team travel to Hanworth Villa, Twickenham to play The Arthurian League in the FA Inter-League Cup, Second Round, we wish them well.
