ESSEX & SUFFOLK BORDER FOOTBALL LEAGUE            2024 / 2025

WEEKLY ROUND UP       @       09/11/2024.

There were more teams involved in cup matches than league matches last Saturday, eleven teams from the Premier Division and Division One were involved in the Essex Premier Cup and a similar number from Divisions Three and Four competed in the Richard Degville Cup, formerly the COVID Cup.

Two matches were played in the Premier Division, Kings Park Rangers edged out Hatfield Peverel by two goals to one to stay second but if you ever used to do “The Pools” then bank on Dedham Old Boys, their draw at Alresford Colne Rangers was their ninth to date.

Division One had four matches, leaders Dovercourt Rovers overcame Great Bentley who stay sixth, Little Oakley Reserves went nap against Tiptree Jobserve to stay third, Lawford Lads, stay third winning by the only goal against bottom team Cornard United Reserves and there was a surprise win for Frinton & Walton against Gosfield United.

There was a full set of fixtures, seven, in Division Two, at the start of play four teams were separated by three points, at the close there is a one-point difference from first to second, third and fourth. Previously unbeaten leaders, Prettygate were comfortably beaten by Tavern who stay fourth, very good game that was too, third placed and unbeaten “The Rodings” beat Gas Recreation Reserves to move to the top of the table and Earls Colne, stay third after sharing eight goals at Great Bradfords who remain in fifth. Alresford Colne Rangers Reserves hit five (four for Hodgson), at Boxford Rovers whilst Dedham Old Boys Reserves went two better against struggling Assington Stanley, finally Great Bentley Reserves won and Stillwaters drew with White Notley Reserves.

Division Four had three matches, so with Harwich & Parkeston “A” on cup duty, it allowed Silver End United Reserves to go top, on goal difference, when beating Abbey Fields, Roman Rovers “A” were the days top scorers with eight, whilst Hedinghams United Reserves moved into third when beating West Bergholt Reserves.

The Richard Degville Cup saw victories for Bradfield Rovers Reserves (on penalties), Elmstead Market, Kelvedon Social, Mersea Island, Silver End United Reserves, Tendring Borough (three for Coyle), Tiptree Heath Reserves, Tiptree Jobserve Reserves (on penalties), West Bergholt and Wormingford Wanderers Reserves.

In the Essex Premier Cup there were wins for Brightlingsea Town, but Belle Vue Social, Bradfield Rovers, Cressing United, Hedinghams United, East Thurrock, Stanway Pegasus Reserves, Thorpe Athletic, Tiptree Heath and White Notley (AET / on penalties), all lost, Gas Recreation failed to muster a team but Earls Colne progress because Boxted Lodgers, First, withdrew.

Finally, in the Suffolk FA Junior Cup, Cavendish beat Achilles to progress into the next round.
