Essex & Suffolk Border League Round Up 12th March 2022.
West Bergholt FC consolidated their current second place in the Premier Division with a thumping 9-0 win over bottom side Felixstowe & Walton FC U23s at Dellwood Avenue. They are now six points behind leaders Stanway Pegasus FC who were in cup action.
‘Bergholt’s’ rampaging side were well served with a Jamie Beecham hat trick and three from Luke Payne whilst Lewis Blanchett, Lee Townrow and Reece Keating completed the scoring.
Chelmsford City FC Reserves were comfortable 5-1 winners over struggling Lawford Lads FC at Heybridge Swifts ground to strengthen their third spot, six points adrift of ‘Bergholt’ having each played twenty-nine games. On target with a brace was Elliott Howson, and Evan Payne, whilst Samuel Wade struck the fifth. Oliver Mann replied for the visitors.
Fourth place Tiptree Heath FC lost some momentum after being held at Barnston AFC in a 1-1 draw where Ryan Knill-Jones hit the goal for the visitors.
Colne Athletic FC beat Hatfield Peverell FC 4-2 at Strangers Corner where Dale Brown and Joseph Heron were amongst the marksmen for the home side, with Emmanuel Konassi and Cosmin Rotaru responding for the visitors whose John Leader received a red card.
Taylor McAndrews was the hero for visiting Dedham Old Boys FC who emerged as 2-1 winners at Earls Colne FC who after an excellent run have now lost their last two games. The host’s scorer was Jamie Hudson with McAndrews hitting both goals for the Old Boys.
At the Memorial Ground Little Oakley FC Reserves were held by Alresford Colne Rangers FC where both sides shared four goals. It was a vital point for the home side that languish in 16th position in the table whilst Rangers slipped to 6th. Jake Mayes and Gabriel Hodgson got the Oakley goals whilst Scott Connor and Ryan Lewis replied.
In the league cup tie at Braintree FC Ground hosts Dunmow Town FC held premier leaders Stanway Pegasus FC after 90 minutes where both sides settled with a 2-2 draw. However,” Stanway” won through 3-2 on penalties ensuring the double remains very much on target for the Colchester side.
The match of the day in the First Division saw promotion chasers Stanway Rovers FC U23s against fellow Belle Vue Social FC who have their own aspirations of joining the Premier Division. In the event, it was Harry Thomas who settled the issue with two goals that gives Rovers a marginal advantage with both sides having several games in hand.
In the second Division Brightlingsea Town FC, have won promotion with games to spare following a tight 3-1 victory over Thorpe Athletic FC at Strangers Corner. The usual suspects Ricky Griggs with two and Ashley Sauka did the business making it twenty straight victories ensuring a great first season in the league.
In Division Three, Wormingford Wanderers FC relentless push for promotion is virtually assured with another strong victory against Ramsey & Mistley FC winning 4-0 at Low Road and with the benefit of plenty of games in hand. Brett Angel, Will Foley, Joe Fowler and Daniel Watts, scored the goals.
In Division Four, Great Bentley FC Reserves have wrapped up the title following a 5-0 win at Mersea Island FC where Adam Morton and Samuel Winney each scored twice with a 5th from John De Loup.
In Division Five, despite second place High Roding FC’s victory at Cavendish FC Reserves 6-3, Roman Rovers FC will take the title with one game to play in their first season in the league.
