Essex & Suffolk Border League Round Up 19th March 2022.
West Bergholt FC appear the likely runners up in the Premier Division with their third straight win against Sudbury Sports FC 2-1 with goals from Reece Keating and substitute Jack Harrington. They are three points adrift of leaders Stanway Pegasus who were inactive but have played five more games.
Chelmsford City FC Reserves were perhaps surprisingly beaten by Dedham Old Boys FC at the “The Drift” 2-1 and so doing have lost four of there last six matches, but remain in third place twelve points clear of fourth place Tiptree Heath FC. The home side’s goals came from Taylor McAndrew and Tristan Mosley whilst Samuel Wade replied from the penalty spot. (Full Report on web-site)
The “Tiptree” side were engaged in a nine-goal thriller at Shrub End Sports Ground going down 5-4 to visiting Hatfield Peverel FC.
After a couple of successive defeats, it was back to winning ways for Earls Colne FC who comfortably defeated Little Oakley FC Reserves 4-0 with goals from James Couzens, Ross Debrick, Jamie Hudson, and Luis Welton.
Brantham Athletic FC Reserves are enjoying a good season in the Premier beat a gallant Gas Recreation FC 4-1. Justin De-Souza got the consolation goal.
In form Dunmow Town FC made it five consecutive wins with a hard-fought win against Lawford Lads FC, at School Lane 3-2. Jack Allam and Joshua Morgan scored for the “Lads”.
White Notley FC are another side enjoying a good spell whose winning streak stretches to three following their 2-1 win over Colne Athletic FC at Oak Farm. The remaining senior fixture saw Barnston AFC share the spoils with visiting Alresford Colne Rangers FC 2-2.
In the First Division Belle Vue Social FC were looking, likely champions, but following their Junior Cup Semi Final success they appear to have taken their eye off the ball and suffered their fourth defeat in six games losing at home to FC Clacton Reserves 2-1 whose winning goal from Andreas Antoniou-Garcia came in the 90th minute, whilst Lydon Bramhall scored the first. The home goal came from Tom Halls.
It’s looking a tough ask for Belle Vue Social FC as Stanway Rovers FC U23s are now emerging as clear favourites in the promotion stakes, whilst leaders Silver End United FC will probably need a win in their last match to get second spot.
Cressing United FC beat Mersea Island FC 2-0 with goals from Robert Ruse and George Stafford, and in form Gosfield United FC beat Harwich & Parkeston FC Reserves 3-2 at The Royal Oak.
It was cup action for Stanway Rovers FC U23s who beat Cavendish FC 5-3 at the Philip Morant School to reach the Border League KO Cup, Semi-Final.
In the, all First Division, Reserve Border League Cup tie clash, bottom side Alresford Colne Rangers FC Reserves surprisingly upset West Bergholt FC Reserves 2-1 at Ford Lane to reach the final.
In Division Two, Great Bentley FC struck their sixth successive win at Frinton & Walton FC 4-2 to secure their second-place spot, and promotion to Division One. Goals from Connor Jones, Blake Keogh –Kedar, Jake Vaughan and Kurt Firkins helped the celebrations.
Meanwhile the champions of Division Two, Brightlingsea Town FC were just edging out Thorpe Athletic FC in the Tommy Thompson Cup, finally winning 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in normal time to progress.
Also, in the Tommy Thompson Cup there were wins for Tollesbury FC, Hatfield Peverel FC Reserves and Tiptree Jobserve FC Reserves.
In the Covid Cup, there was success for Flitch United FC, Barnston AFC Reserves and Wormingford Wanderers FC who all made progress.
