23/09/2023 – Weekly Round-Up

ESBFL – WEEKLY ROUND-UP for 23/09/2023.

          Whilst there were a handful of league fixtures, the focus was on the Knock-Out and Reserve Knock-Out cups, and a few surprises were thrown up.

          Five ties went to penalties, Division Two, Boxted Lodgers beat Premier Division, Brightlingsea Town, Division Three, Prettygate beat Tiptree Jobserve, the all Division One tie saw Frinton & Walton beat Dovercourt Rovers, The Roding’s from Division One beat Bradfield Rovers and Premier Division Lawford Lads eventually overcame Assington Stanley.

          There were home wins for Belle Vue Social, Great Bradfords, Hatfield Peverel, Hedinghams United, Thorpe Athletic, who hit ten without reply, White Notley and Wormingford Wanderers. Away team winners were Stanway Rovers Community Reserves, three for Lewis, Ramsey & Mistley, Stanway Pegasus Reserves, Alresford Colne Rangers, Kings Park Rangers and Earls Colne.

          In the Reserve Cup, there were home victories for Lawford Lads Reserves, Mersea Island Reserves, Tiptree Jobserve Reserves, three for O’Hare, with Roman Rovers Reserves, Great Bentley Reserves, Gas Recreation Reserves, four for Page, winning on their travels.

          In the only Premier Division fixture, Colne Athletic hammered Barnston on their own patch, this was their ninth victory of the season.

          Division One saw a second victory of the season for Cressing, and Tavern secured their first to move away from the bottom.

          Unbeaten, Gas Recreation maintained their good start in Division Two when beating previously unbeaten White Notley Reserves.

In Division Three, Gosfield United also gained three points to move second, a hattrick here for Matthews.

          Boxford Rovers won handsomely, whilst Brantham Athletic (Development) shared the points with Tiptree Heath Reserves to remain top in Division Four.

          In Division Five, Great Bentley ‘A” moved up to second place when beating leaders Hedinghams United Reserves and Roman Rovers Reserves beat West Bergholt Reserves.

Finally, Cornard United Reserves won through on penalties in the Suffolk Senior Reserve Cup against Hadleigh United U23’s.
