The ESBFL received some sad news early on Monday 20^th October, it is with great sadness that we have to advise that Richard Degville, the League, Vice-Chairman has died. Richard had served the league and other local football leagues and Clubs for many years and will be sadly missed.

There was one cup match this week, Premier Division, Dedham Old Boys played Dovercourt Rovers from Division One, in the First Round of the Peter Andrews Charity Cup and the visitors played extremely well and won by four goals to nil.

In the Premier Division, East Thurrock clung on to top spot when beating Cressing United, Hatfield Peverel moved up to third by edging out Thorpe Athletic by the odd goal in seven, they drop two places as Sudbury Sports moved up to fourth after winning against Gas Recreation and Springfield, who won at home to lowly Belle Vue Social are now fifth. AFC Pegasus Colchester beat bottom team Alresford Colne Rangers, Tiptree Heath beat second bottom White Notley, whilst the Earls Colne versus Great Bentley match was abandoned at half-time.

Hatfield Peverel Reserves remain bottom of Division One, but they only lost by one goal to nil against leaders, The Rodings & Little Waltham, Gosfield United kept up the pressure by beating Tavern and Clacton Regent stay third after beating second bottom Lawford Lads. Prettygate (three for Lewis), moved into fourth place after winning against Hedinghams United leap-frogging Roman Rovers who could only draw against FC Clacton Reserves and in another stalemate Great Bentley Reserves drew with Frinton & Walton.

Six matches were played in Division Two, leaders Bradfield Rovers continued their good form when winning at Cavendish, Silver End United, the only unbeaten team in the division, move up to second spot after beating Boxford Rovers but previous occupants, West Bergholt were beaten at home by Gas Recreation Reserves. Wormingford Wanderers beat bottom team Great Bradfords to move up to fifth place, just above Cressing United Reserves who beat Alresford Colne Rangers Reserves, the last match saw White Notley Reserves beat Springfield Reserves.

Division Three also had six matches, unbeaten, Tiptree Jobserve beat Boxted Lodgers to stay five points clear of Harwich & Parkeston who won against Mersea Island, Great Bentley “A”, another unbeaten team, beat Stillwaters to stay third. Similarly unbeaten, Elmstead Market had a worthwhile trip to Brightlingsea to beat Wivenhoe United by a solitary goal, second bottom, Silver End Reserves won against Brooklands who dropped two places, the last match saw Oyster get the better of winless, Roman Rovers Reserves who remain bottom. 

Elmstead Market Reserves won their first match of the season, this was against Tendring District having been behind at the break, Roman Rovers “A” beat Kelvedon Social to stay above Frinton & Walton Reserves who lost for the first time against West Bergholt Reserves. It’s heady days for Ramsey & Mistley, they are now third after beating Stanway Rovers EVL Development and newcomers Prettygate Reserves (three for Anderson), hit four when beating Bradfield Rovers Reserves. Hedinghams United Reserves beat Rayne and Wormingford Wanderers Reserves triumphed over Tollesbury.
