Essex & Suffolk Border League Round Up 19^th February 2022.

Defeats for both West Bergholt fc and Chelmsford City fc Reserves has realistically ensued Stanway Pegasus fc will take the Premier Division Title this season, barring a miracle, that will be a stunning performance, by any standards.

Indeed, Stanway’s win at the Lorkin Daniel Field opened up a gap of nine points over second placed West Bergholt FC with three games in hand. This was the leader’s twenty second win from the twenty-four played thus far. The question is will their unbeaten tag be intact at the end of the season?

Their 2-1 win ensured a double over their rivals, who were losing only their third league match of the season.

Third placed Chelmsford City FC Reserves forlorn hopes of narrowing the gap came to a crushing halt at High Easter Road where Barnston AFC inflicted a big defeat winning 6-1 over the young ’City’ side. Chelmsford’s objective will now be to catch ‘Bergholt’ who remain three points ahead each having played twenty-seven matches to achieve runner’s – up spot.

Whilst Stanway Pegasus FC is rightly getting the plaudits, another senior club who are making their own headlines this season is Earls Colne FC. Manager, Chris Hudson has quietly gone about his business in producing a decent squad which augers well in the long term.

They produced another fine win at Green Farm Meadow defeating a young Gas Recreation FC side 4-0, albeit ‘Gas’ are in the process of rebuilding.

Indeed, Earls Colne FC are the Premier Division’s form team having won their last six successive games, and have moved into fifth in the table, a fete that has not been achieved for some fifteen years or more.

Ross Debrick, converted by the Manager from full back to goal scorer struck a hat-trick whilst Luis Welton completed the scoring.

In Division One, Silver End United FC extended their lead to five points with a comfortable victory over Stanway Pegasus FC Reserves winning 5-0.  Although having played more games than their nearest challengers, they are making a late run, and have points on the board. Abiola Makanjuola struck a hat trick and Joe Borein and Thomas Cocklin added to the tally.

Second placed, Tiptree Jobserve FC slipped up at The Royal Oak where the ’Shrimpers’ won 3-1 with goals from Mathew Green, Paul McDonough, and Gary Stanford.

At The Glebe, Belle Vue Social FC beat Mersea Island FC with three goals from Sam Cripps and one from Wesley Henry to keep their promotion hope alive with games in hand.

William Chaplin, Jack Hubbard, and substitute Gavin Brightwell got the goals for Cavendish FC, but the visitors, and the form team in this division, Coggeshall United FC Reserves, replied with five goals. United have won only seven matches in the league and yet have won five of their last six matches.

Elsewhere Cressing United FC beat West Bergholt FC Reserves 3-2 maintaining their fifth position.

In Division Two, Brightlingsea Town FC continued with their relentless form at Strangers Corner beating Frinton & Walton FC 8-2, and in so doing achieved 105 goals with an impressive goal difference of 90. The goal scorers were Conrad Baker, Keiron Baker, Ricky Griggs, and Ashley Sauka. The ‘Frinton’ reply came from Jack Justice and Joshua Lake.

In Division Three, the biggest losers were leaders Wormingford Wanderers FC who had taken a 4-0 interval lead against visiting Dedham Old Boys FC Reserves when the game was abandoned. Although academic the marksmen were Will Foley, Jay Armitage Joel Barton, and Sam Moss.
