Essex & Suffolk Border League Round Up 26th February 2022.
Congratulations to Belle Vue Social FC who on Saturday reached the coveted Essex Junior Cup Final, and commiserations to Wormingford Wanderers FC who were beaten in the other Semi Final.
For Belle Vue, a meagre Social Club, what a triumph having won through five rounds, and the semi final to achieve their place in the final on Wednesday the 6th April at Concord Rangers FC Ground, on Canvey Island, where they will meet Catholic United FC Reserves who beat Wormingford 3-0.
There were well over 90 in attendance to watch an exciting hard fought cup tie against Hashtag United FC Reserves where ‘Social’ twice lead but were pulled back by the Essex Olympian side within a minute of scoring each goal.
The tie went into extra time where after 90 minutes the score was level at 2-2. In the extended period “Hashtag” missed a penalty and were punished when the Border League side scored the decisive goal.
Jack Irwin and Jack Webb scored during the opening 90 minutes, but the hero of the hour was Dillon Francis’ late goal that created a bit of history for the Social Club. Heroes’ all.
There were two mid-week matches in the Premier Division that saw Tiptree Heath FC and Dunmow Town FC gain maximum points and coupled with their respective Saturday results enabled a six-point haul aiding their league positions.
Tiptree consolidated their fourth table position six points behind Chelmsford City Reserves with three games in hand, whilst Dunmow moved into eighth position after a somewhat indifferent season but enjoyed a welcome six points.
Joe Chester was at the forefront of Tiptree’s 5-3 win at Brantham Athletic scoring a fine hat trick with one each from Cameron Ward and Kieran Michaels. This was followed with a fine win beating Chelmsford City Reserves away 3-1 with a brace from Charlie Green, and the other from Ryan Knill-Jones putting pressure on ‘City’s top three position, who were beaten for the eight time, in the league.
As for Dunmow Town FC, they followed up their mid week success with a good 3-0 win at home to Alresford Colne Rangers FC
At the top Stanway Pegasus FC cruised past Barnston with a comfortable 6-1 win. Max Booth was again amongst the goals with a hat trick, and one each from Elliott Aves, Callum Griffiths, and Aaron Collier.
Second placed West Bergholt FC were involved in a hard-fought victory at fifth placed Colne Athletic FC succeeding 3-2 at Strangers Corner with Jamie Beecham, Lewis Blanchett and Lee Townrow on the score sheet. They are looking increasingly likely to claim the runners up spot at the expense of inconsistent Chelmsford City FC Reserves.
The bubble finally burst for inform Earls Colne FC when they lost 2-1 at Brantham Athletic FC Reserves but are positioned in a healthy sixth place. On target was James Couzens for Colne.
White Notley FC took the points at Dedham Old Boys FC with a welcome 3-1 win, whilst there was success for plucky Gas Recreation FC, who after a poor run of results overcame Felixstowe & Walton FC U23s 2-1 at Bromley Road. Jay West and Jamie Cant scored the goals.
At School Lane lowly Lawford Lads FC were too good of Sudbury Sports FC winning 3-0 with an Oliver Mann double and Aden Mansfield completing the scoring. The “Lads” need a good finish to avoid a place in the bottom two, but vitally, have games in hand.
In the First Division, Silver End United FC are making a late challenge for promotion following their 8-1 win at West Bergholt FC Reserves.
