ESSEX & SUFFOLK BORDER FOOTBALL LEAGUE            2025 / 2026

Five matches were played in the Premier Division, sadly Belle Vue Social have called it a day and have withdrawn but there were a few surprises! Mid-table, AFC Pegasus Colchester beat leaders Great Bentley by three goals to one, second placed Sudbury Sports lost by a single goal against third bottom White Notley and fourth placed East Thurrock gained a point in a goal-less draw at Earls Colne who stay fifth. The biggest movers this week were Thorpe Athletic who scored six (three for both Barnard and Thomspon), to the one in reply from bottom team Alresford Colne Rangers to move up to second place, the other top-flight match saw Springfield win by four goals to one at Gas Recreation.

There were also five matches played in Division One, during the week, troubled, bottom team, FC Clacton Reserves pulled out leaving leaders Gosfield United side-lined, but they remain eight points ahead of The Rodings & Little Waltham who overcame Tavern by three goals to nil. Third placed Clacton Regent beat Great Bentley Reserves by four goals to one, but fourth placed Prettygate could only draw, two goals apiece, with Hedinghams United. Dovercourt Rovers got back to winning ways beating Hatfield Peverel Reserves by a single goal and Frinton & Walton shared the points with Lawford Lads.

Bradfield Rovers remain top of Division Two but had to settle for a single point against Boxford Rovers in a three-all draw, similarly, third placed Gas Recreation Reserves were also held to a one-all draw by Cressing United Reserves. West Bergholt bounced back from last week’s defeat by beating winless Great Bradfords and Wormingford Wanderers beat Cavendish by two goals to one.

Division Three also had four matches, Tiptree Jobserve stay top after a single goal victory against Stillwaters, and Great Bentley “A” hit six (three for Smith), without reply against bottom team, Brooklands. Boxted Lodgers also hit six without reply, away, against Oyster but the surprise result was second bottom, Roman Rovers beating third placed Harwich & Parkeston “A” by four goals to nil.

There were five matches in Division Four, bottom team Elmstead Market Reserves beat Tollesbury by five goals to two, top team Frinton & Walton Reserves beat Wormingford Wanderers Reserves by three goals to one and stay two points ahead of Roman Rovers “A” who beat Prettygate Reserves by five goals to one. Kelvedon Social succumbed by three goals to one at home to Bradfield Rovers Reserves, the last game was a two-all draw between Rayne and Tendring District.

The first Knock-Out Cup quarter-final, went to penalties with Premier Division, Cressing United beating Division Two, Silver End United, with scores level at normal full-time.

Finally, there was an outstanding First Round tie in the Richard Degville Cup, here, Hedinghams United Reserves beat Wivenhoe United by four goals to one and they will play Rayne in Round Two.
