Essex & Suffolk Border League Round Up 18th September 2021.
There were only five Premier matches at the weekend including a Friday night fixture whilst five sides were engaged in the Essex Premier Cup, Round 1.
For the best part of 24 hours Chelmsford City FC Reserves topped the table with a comprehensive 5-1 win over Brantham Athletic FC Reserves at Heybridge Swifts. However, that was short lived due to the continuing all conquering Stanway Pegasus FC win at former champions Gas Recreation FC.
Firstly, City’s win places them second in the table albeit have played eleven league games already but have twenty-five points on the board. Their scorers were Elliott Howson, Jordon Sargent, Luke Deslandes and two from Marc Holland.
A Tuesday night fixture at the Memorial Ground saw Little Oakley FC Reserves thrash Dunmow Town FC 10-2 that saw ‘Oakley’ climb to 13th position with eleven points from eleven games played. Dunmow Town FC were unfortunate in that, the home side took full advantage of their allocation of senior players, within the rules, that saw the visitors continue to slide down the table.
Back at Bromley Road, on Saturday, was the eagerly awaited clash of the former league champions Gas Recreation FC and the prospective new incumbent’s Stanway Pegasus FC.
Whilst ‘Gas’ are renowned fighters, are they about to renounce their title, two reds cards will not help their cause?
There would appear to be an inevitability, that their reign is over being ten points behind on level games barring a major collapse of joint managers Ray Turner and Ian Booth’s ‘Pegasus’ side.
Twenty-seven points from their all winning nine games is an amazing accumulation, and they have set the bar so high it would seem impossible for the chasing pack to make inroads and we are only in September. The consolidation was achieved by goals from Josh Dillon, George Barron and Kane Elliott.
Elsewhere in the Premier, Colne Athletic FC thrashed Felixstowe & Walton FC Under 23’s 6-1 to leave the seasiders languishing at the foot of the table with three points with Charlie Hooley getting the visitors consolation goal. White Notley FC took the spoils against visiting Sudbury Sports FC at Oak Farm and Alresford Colne Rangers FC moved into fourth place with a comfortable 3-1 win over Hatfield Peverel FC at Ford Lane.
In the Essex Premier Cup there were mixed fortunes for those playing in round one, (others had first round byes). There were wins for Dunmow Town FC, and Tiptree Heath Fc, whilst Barnston AFC, Earls Colne FC, Lawford Lads FC and West Bergholt FC were first round casualties.
Dunmow Town FC fought out a 4-4 draw before winning 7-6 on penalties against Essex Olympian side Springfield FC, and similarly Tiptree Heath FC progressed at Harold Wood FC also from the Olympian league after extra time succeeding 4-2.
It was a major disappointment for West Bergholt FC losing 4-0 at Shoebury Town who are from the Olympian League, Division Two, who have only a modest record this season.
In Division One, Stanway Rovers FC U23s continue to progress with a narrow 2-1 win at The Hawthorns against Tiptree Jobserve FC to maintain top spot. On their heels are Belle Vue Social FC who defeated Cressing United FC 4-1 at Mile End Sports Ground thus maintaining their 100% record and consolidating in second spot one point behind the leaders with a game in hand.
In Division Two, Leaders Brightlingsea Town FC, marched on winning 4-0 with Ashley Sauka (12) striking twice and Keiron Baker (8), and Ricky Griggs (10), scoring one each. The figures in brackets indicate the goals scored in total thus far by the divisions leading marksmen.
