Essex & Suffolk Border League Round Up 16th April 2022.
As the season nears its closing stages the Divisional Titles have been settled bar the First that will be decided within the next couple of weeks.
It’s been an overwhelming success for Premier Champions Stanway Pegasus FC who with four matches to play will very likely complete the season unbeaten in what has been a magnificent campaign enabling them to play at a higher-level next season.
They beat Chelmsford City FC Reserves 4-0 who themselves are vying for third place with Dunmow Town FC.
West Bergholt FC hit five goals without reply away to White Notley FC and will be Runners-Up. Their top scorer Lewis Blanchett helped himself to three more taking his tally to 23 whilst Lee Townrow added two to complete the scoring. It’s worth noting that Karl Andrade has been prominent in the goal scoring charts with 22.
Dedham Old Boys FC caused the surprise of the day beating Tiptree Heath FC away 4-2 where Darren Bethell and Tyler Shillingford each scored twice.
Barnston AFC were the biggest winners in the premier overwhelming Gas Recreation FC 7-1 whilst Dunmow Town FC were held at home by Colne Athletic FC in a 2-2 draw.
In Division One, the promotion stakes are far from settled, but the champions will come from either Stanway Rovers FC U23s or Cressing United FC. Both sides are equal on points, but Stanway have an important game in hand. Cressing kept in touch with a 2-0 win at Cavendish FC.
Elsewhere in the First Division FC Clacton Reserves won at Ford Lane beating Alresford Colne Rangers FC Reserves 2-1. On the score sheet were Lyndon Bramhall and Terence Kangandu for the visitors.
On Good Friday, Little Oakley hosted the League’s Reserve KO Cup Final in front of a good crowd. It was an exciting cup tie that saw West Bergholt FC Reserves beat Brantham Athletic FC ‘A’ 3-0 on penalties where after 90 minutes neither side were able to breach two fine defences. In Division Two, Brightlingsea Town FC are Champions and remain unbeaten with a 5-0 win at Boxted Lodgers FC where Phillip Burnett hit a hat trick with further goals from Keiron Baker and Ricky Griggs. They will be a welcome addition to the First Division and will be joined by a rejuvenated Great Bentley FC side whom will finish as Runners-Up.
In Division Three, Wormingford Wanderers FC drew 2-2 with Colne Athletic FC Reserves but had already wrapped up the title with a strong season. They have thus far won 13 of their 16 games drawing three with four to play. Dovercourt Rovers FC will be Runners-Up in their first appearance in the league,
In Division Four, Great Bentley FC Reserves completed their season with a top place finish to complete a fine season for the club with both sides achieving promotion. Gas Recreation FC have had a troubled season, but nevertheless their Reserves achieved a creditable Runners-Up spot.
Also worthy of note is the season’s performance of Bradfield Rovers FC who finished in third place and signed off with a 4-0 win at Gosfield United FC Reserves.
In Division Five the honours go to Roman Rovers FC who won the title just edging out Runners-Up High Roding FC who finished their campaign winning 2-1 at Great Bradfords FC with goals from Ben Smith and Myles Passley. (Full Match Report on “web-site”)
