Essex & Suffolk Border League Round Up 23rd April 2022.
It’s been a busy week both in the league and cup semi finals as the season nears conclusion. In the Cup competitions the three remaining ties are now finalised.
Tiptree Heath FC will meet league champions Stanway Pegasus FC in the Knock-Out Cup Final on Tuesday 3rd May at Little Oakley FC KO 7.45pm.
This was achieved following their 5-2 win against Cavendish FC where Ben Kensdale, Tejan Saccoh, Cameron Ward and Morley Dialu were on target. There will be a new name on the silverware and ‘Pegasus’ will be looking to achieve the double in this their triumphant season.
The Covid Cup the final will be held at Little Oakley FC on Monday 2nd May KO 3.00pm and will be contested by Wormingford Wanderers FC and Barnston Athletic FC “A”. The Tommy Thompson Cup also to be played at Little Oakley will feature Brightlingsea Town FC v Great Bentley FC. ‘Town’ beat Wormingford Wanderers FC in a closely fought tie winning 2-0 with goals from Ricky Griggs and Ashley Sauka, whilst Great Bentley FC overcame Tiptree Jobserve FC Reserves 1-0. Again, there will be a new name on the coveted trophy.
There were a number of mid week league matches that saw Stanway Pegasus FC notch up yet another victory at School Lane against Lawford Lads FC where a brace from Samir Rhaiti and one each from Max Booth and Samuel Clark stretched their lead at the top to 21 points combined with their 2-0 success at Earls Colne FC on Saturday.
Also, Colne Athletic FC moved into fifth place with a solitary goal victory at home to Alresford Colne Rangers FC, and also won Saturday against visiting Lawford Lads FC where Oliver Mann struck the consolation goal.
Hatfield Peverel FC also had a mid week outing winning 3-2 at Barnston AFC with goals from Stefan Ashdown, Kacper Banas and Harry Page. Adam Burton and Michael Morgan were on target for the home side.
Finally, the weekend Premier fixtures were concluded with an 8-0 drubbing by Dunmow Town FC against visiting Little Oakley FC Reserves that will see ‘Town’ finish in fourth place.
The battle for the First Division title remains in contention with Stanway Rovers FC U23s and Cressing United FC fighting it out for the top spot with Belle Vue Social FC awaiting any slip ups.
The leaders ‘Rovers’ helped their cause with a 6-1 thumping of Stanway Pegasus FC Reserves and in mid-week beat Cavendish FC 4-2 with goals from Thomas Lewis, Nathaniel Mardell and a brace from Harry Thomas. (Full match report for Stanway derby is on web-site)
Belle Vue Social FC who have been playing ‘catch – up’ won their two recent matches in an attempt to make the promotional places. A 4-0 win at Gosfield United FC and a mid-week win at West Bergholt FC Reserves, where Milo Grimes struck twice has drawn them closer. It’s still all to play for.
There was a thriller at Mersea Island FC where they entertained Harwich & Parkeston FC Reserves. Ethan Ward, Ryan Lock and James Wargent were amongst the goals for the Islanders, but the visitors took the points with a 5-4 win with goals from Robert Good, Christopher Stratton and a fine hat trick from Alex Pryke.
In Division Two, both champions Brightlingsea Town FC and runners up Great Bentley FC had thumping wins respectively. “Town” beat St Osyth FC 7-0 where player manager Ricky Griggs scored four times, together with a brace for Adam Drysdale, and the other from Keiron Baker.
Great Bentley FC overwhelmed Lawford Lads FC Reserves 9-1 where there goals were shared amongst Kurt Firkins, Ryan Grace, Archie Herbert, Charles Dorling, Blake Keogh-Kedar and Jake Vaughan.
