Essex & Suffolk Border League Round Up 4th September 2021.
Stanway Pegasus FC maintained their fine form in mid-week defeating Little Oakley FC Reserves at the Memorial Ground 3-1, but West Bergholt FC are in pursuit with Saturday’s hard earned, success at Braintree Town’s ground against Dunmow Town FC.
The ‘Pegasus’ win was there seventh successive success and head the table with a game in hand. It’s an outstanding start to the season leaving the other fancied sides in there wake chasing the coveted league title. ‘Pegasus’ scorers were Samuel Clark, Callum Griffith and Gianni Sabini whilst Robert Pratt replied for the home side.
There was much talk in the close season of West Bergholt’s summer signings, and they are clearly paying dividends. They have arguably the most potent strike force and against Dunmow both Karl Andrade and Aston Firkins were on target with Andrade the Premier’s leading scorer with nine.
There was a surprise at The Marconi Sports Ground on Saturday where third place Chelmsford City FC Reserves were held in a six-goal thriller against visiting Little Oakley FC Reserves. It has been an encouraging start for the young ‘City’ side whose goals came from Elliott Howson, Abraham Eze and Evan Payne, with Ethan Abrahams, Lee Branson, and Calum Green responding.
There was a good 3-0 win for Sudbury Sports FC over visiting Barnston AFC with Gary Hillyard claiming a fine hat trick to make it three wins from eight for the Suffolk side.
Although early in the season it might well be, a significant win for Earls Colne FC who climbed off the bottom having recorded a fine 4-1 home win over fellow strugglers Lawford Lads FC.
It was a convincing display at The Tolleshunt Knights Village Hall that saw Tiptree Heath FC beat inconsistent White Notley FC 4-1 where Cameron Ward hit three and Ryan Knill – Jones added a fourth.
There was a goal fest up the A12 where Hatfield Peverel FC played out a 4-4 draw with Dedham Old Boys FC. Both sides have one win thus far, but for sheer entertainment this was a match to saviour. Lawrence Hale struck twice for the home side whilst Paul Grimsey and Owen Dawson added to the home side’s goal tally with Ryan Lee, twice, Taylor McAndrews and Tyler Shillingford on the score sheet for Dedham.
In Division One, Stanway Rovers FC U23s lead the way with a close fought game against visiting FC Clacton Reserves winning 4-3. However, Belle Vue Social FC are the only 100% side and are in second place following a tight encounter at Felsted Athletic FC with goals from Shane Hazelwood and Josh Grimes in a 2-1 win. It’s a straight fourth victory, and Belle Vue look strong contenders in a competitive division.
Tiptree Jobserve FC moved into third position with a resounding 7-0 win at West Bergholt FC Reserves followed on level points by Harwich & Parkeston FC Reserves who beat Silver End FC in mid-week at The Royal Oak 4-0 where Robert Good grabbed a hat trick and substitute Chris Johnson completing the scoring.
In Division Two, Brightlingsea Town FC are setting the pace and scored another emphatic win at Rowhedge FC, this time 5-0. This new side already look promotional candidates having won four from four and netted thirty goals. They have some experienced players in their squad and frankly look a sure bet for the division two title! ‘Town’s’ marksmen were Keiron Baker, Ricky Griggs (3) and Ashley Sauka.
Divisions Three, Four and Five commenced their league programs on Saturday and some interesting results emerged.
Prettygate AFC lead the third with a 6-1 home win at Shrub End Sports Ground against Brantham Athletic FC “A”, whilst Abbey Fields FC starting their campaign in Division Four and also won 6-1 at Langham Lodgers FC.
Finally, Division Five opened up with a resounding win for Hedinghams United FC Reserves, whose First Team match was postponed, who found the net fourteen times without reply against luckless Wethersfield in a reversed fixture at Lawn Meadow.
