11/09/2021 – Results Round-Up
Essex & Suffolk Border League Round Up 11th September 2021.
There were significant results both in mid week and Saturday the main benefactors being Chelmsford City Reserves, Sudbury Sports and Barnston all of whom secured maximum points.
‘City’ beat near neighbours Hatfield Peverel 3-0 at Heybridge Swifts on Wednesday night. They raced into an interval three goal lead through Michael Edward Spillane, Niall Attwood and Oliver Brewer, but on Saturday were given a stiffer examination when White Notley were the visitors. It was a narrow 3-2 win for the Chelmsford side who consolidated there position in third place with goals from Kelean Motobaluti, Jordan Sargent and Kian Herbert.
Sudbury Sports, always seemingly slow starters, picked up their six points with a convincing win at the Kings Marsh Stadium, but again a tighter Saturday result. Firstly, there was a goal fest when they entertained Colne Athletic. A 5-2 win saw five different goal scorers in Bobby Badham, Colby Hillyard, Jack Ladbrook Liam White, and substitute Louie Arnold, whilst Joe McCracken and Louis Olymbios replied.
However, Saturday saw a closer affair when Alresford Colne Rangers were the visitors who lost a close match 3-2.
The other mid week benefactors saw Barnston AFC cause an upset at Cressing Road defeating Dunmow Town who continue to struggle. Barnston are also having an indifferent season, but goals from Stuart Manley and Jordon Robertson secured the points, whilst back at High Easter Road, Barnston beat the much-improved Brantham Athletic Reserves 2-0 with goals from Michael Morgan and another from Stuart Stanley.
The top match Saturday was the clash between the leaders Stanway Pegasus and visiting Tiptree Heath. The form book prevailed as the Stanway side made it eight from eight, winning 2-1, a superb start to the season, consolidating their position at the helm.
West Bergholt’s sequence of victories continues where at School Lane they easily overcame struggling Lawford Lads 4-1 to remain two points behind the leaders albeit having played one more game.
Earls Colne travelled to ‘The Drift’ and secured a good 3-0 win to comfortably move into 14th position, whilst Colne Athletic and Dunmow Town fought out a 2-2 draw at Strangers Corner.
Current champions Gas Recreation overwhelmed Felixstowe & Walton U23s at Dellwood Avenue 6-1 to move into 4th position whilst the Felixstowe side are facing a tough campaign and have lost seven of there opening eight matches and are three points adrift in the basement position. There were six different ‘Gas’ scorers, Charley Cook, Eldon Craig, Jay Giddings, Harry Hewes, Connor Jones and Dylan Soton.
Hatfield Peverel recovered from there mid week loss by making the trip to Little Oakley Reserves and taking the points with a 3-2 win.
In Division One, Robert Good scored twice on Tuesday night enabling Harwich & Parkeston FC Reserves to triumph over Coggeshall United Reserves 2-1 and to leapfrog ‘United’ to move into third place.
Stanway Rovers U23s maintained their lead with a 3-0 win over Silver End whilst Belle Vue Social’s impressive start continues making it five straight wins to remain a point behind the leaders with a game in hand.
In Division Two leaders Brightlingsea Town scored eight in the win over Frinton & Walton. But Ricky Griggs side who had conceded just twice in there previous opening four matches were given a rude awakening as the home side fought back finally losing 8-5. However, five wins and a 100% record and already a goal difference of 31 suggest that Brightlingsea will be strong promotion candidates. The scorers were Ashley Sauka with four two from Griggs and one each for Scott Stallen and Byron Hatch.
