Essex & Suffolk Border League Round Up 23rd October 2021.
In the Premier Division, Earls Colne FC are on fire taking the headlines with a fourth successive league win after a comparatively dismal start to the season.
Their 4 – 2 win at Hatfield Peverel featured goals from Taylor Nicholson and Jack Charnock plus two own goals, and they now move into 9th place in the table. They have the chance of extending that winning sequence next Saturday when they entertain bottom side Lawford Lads in the League Knock-Out Cup.
As for Lawford Lads FC there was no change of luck at Bromley Road, where following two successive defeats, Gas Recreation FC returned to form also winning 4-2 with two goals from Ryan Dale and one each from Eldon Craig and Jay Giddings. ‘Gas,’ move into 6th place, whilst the Lads suffered there eleventh defeat of the campaign.
Tiptree Heath FC had a comfortable 3-0 win at Little Oakley Reserves to move into 7th position. Their scorers were Ryan Knill – Jones with a brace and Cameron Ward.
The remaining Premier match was at Strangers Corner where Colne Athletic FC recorded their eighth win moving into 4th position beating White Notley 6-2. This was there third successive victory.
In the League Knock – Out Cup first round, there were some notable successes least of all at Mile End Sports Ground, where First Division leaders Belle View Social FC beat Premier Alresford Colne Rangers FC 2-1. Similarly, Cressing United FC also claimed a Premier scalp by beating Brantham Athletic FC Reserves in a thriller winning 4-3 at their headquarters.
Luckless Felixstowe & Walton FC U23s also succumbed to first division opposition at Tiptree Jobserve FC where they were well beaten 4-0.
The leading three in the Premier Division all progressed to the next round. Chelmsford City FC Reserves had a comfortable afternoon at Cage Lane defeating Boxted Lodgers FC 4-1, whilst Stanway Pegasus FC thrashed fellow Premier side Dedham Old Boys FC 6-1.
Also, in-form West Bergholt FC, progressed with a predictable win over Great Bentley FC on ‘The Green’ 5-1. However, FC Clacton Reserves made Dunmow Town FC fight to earn their place in round two with a narrow 2-1 victory over the seasiders.
Barnston AFC were made to fight for their passage into the next round with a 5-3 success at Coggeshall United FC Reserves on penalties following a 2-2 score after 90 minutes.
Division Two side Brightlingsea Town FC’s fire power proved too strong for gallant Ramsey & Mistley FC winning 8-2. Player manager, Ricky Griggs was again amongst the goals netting four times, and a brace from Keiron Baker. Adam Drysdale and Phillip Burnett completed the scoring.
Gosfield United FC made short work of fourth division Stillwaters FC winning 5-0 and Frinton & Walton FC were 4-2 winners at Roman Rovers FC.
Bradfield Rovers FC fought well to hold Rowhedge FC at 90 minutes, only to lose 7-8 on penalties, whilst Hedinghams United FC hit seven at Abbey Fields FC.
