Essex & Suffolk Border League Round Up 6th November 2021.
The table topping clash between Stanway Pegasus FC and West Bergholt FC in the Premier Division, saw ‘Pegasus’ stretch their unbeaten run to 14 matches, and return to the top of the table following their resounding 4-1 victory, whilst ‘Bergholt’ dropped to third place enduring only their second league defeat of the season.
Chelmsford City FC Reserves moved into second position with a comfortable win at Dellwood Avenue where they beat struggling Felixstowe & Walton United FC U23s 3-1. The league title almost certainly will be decided between the top three.
Whilst “Chelmsford” strengthened their credentials, “Felixstowe” have a fight on their hands to avoid possible relegation as they suffered their 13th loss of the season.
Dunmow Town FC beat Dedham Old Boys FC at ‘The Drift’ 3-0, and Earls Colne FC were held 1-1 by travelling Brantham Athletic FC Reserves.
At Ford Lane, Alresford Colne Rangers FC won a tight game against local rivals Colne Athletic FC 2-1 to move into fourth position, and Gas Recreation FC won a five-goal thriller beating Little Oakley FC Reserves 3-2.
Tiptree Heath FC took closer order with a 2-1 win over visiting Sudbury Sports FC, whilst bottom side Lawford Lads FC produced a fine result away to Hatfield Peverel FC winning 3-2. “Lawford” remain in the basement position but have three games in hand of “Felixstowe” and “Hatfield” who are engulfed in a relegation scrap.
In the final game White Notley FC defeated mid table Barnston AFC 4-1 at Oak Farm.
In Division One the top two were in County cup action, but Silver End United FC moved a point closer in third place with a goal less draw at home to Gosfield United FC.
Tiptree Jobserve FC meanwhile consolidated their fourth position with a 2-1 win at home to Coggeshall United FC Reserves.
In the Third Round of the Essex Junior Cup there were mixed results with four of the league’s sides progressing to the fourth round.
First Division, Belle Vue Social FC had an eventful and controversial afternoon away to Old Barkabbeyans. They were awarded an 89th minute penalty by referee Mr Mackenzie Kiessa–Smith with the score at 4-4. In consequence, the opposition walked off the pitch and Sam Cripps scored the uncontested penalty. Their reward will be a home fourth round tie against Southend Rangers FC.
Cressing United FC also went through with a home win beating Pitsea Athletic FC 2-1 and will now host Kelvedon Social FC who beat Roydon FC 4-3. Also, through, are Gosfield United FC Reserves who defeated Mersea Island FC 2-1 and they now face a tough tie at home to Catholic United FC Reserves.
Finally, our fourth side through is Wormingford Wanderers FC who travelled to Southend and beat Old Southendians FC ‘A’ 4-2 on penalties having drawn 2-2 after 90 minutes. Their reward will be another away tie, where they will face Old Chelmsfordians.
Stanway Rovers FC U23s were beaten by Burnham Ramblers FC Reserves 3-2 and Debden FC progressed at the expense of Great Bentley FC.
Thorpe Athletic FC were outclassed by the strong Catholic United FC Reserves side losing heavily 7-1 and Ramsey & Mistley FC Reserves lost narrowly to Frenford Senior FC ‘A’ 2-1.
In Division Two leaders Brightlingsea Town FC were without a game, but Hatfield Peverel FC Reserves beat Tollesbury FC 3-2 to move into third place whilst the surprise result of the day was at Boxted Lodgers FC who were thrashed at home by lowly Hedinghams United FC, 7-1.
