Essex & Suffolk Border League Round – Up 8th January 2022.

There was success in the Essex Premier Cup with both Stanway Pegasus FC and Tiptree Heath FC progressing to the quarter finals, whilst Dunmow Town FC’s tie against Woodford East FC was postponed.
In the, all Border League 4th round clash, Tiptree Heath FC went through at Ford Lane to beat Alresford Colne Rangers FC. It was a clinical and dominant performance from Tiptree who stormed into a 4-0 interval lead with goals from Jamie Chesney, Charlie Green, Cameron Ward, and an own goal, Ben Parkin scored the consolation goal for Rangers.
Stanway Pegasus FC were also triumphant with a hard-fought success in Southend against Essex Olympian League side, Old Southendians FC. The home side are mid table in their Premier Division, but the, all conquering Border League Premier Division leaders proved too strong and reached the last eight.
Colne Athletic FC should arguably have also been in the hat for the quarter final draw having lead Catholic United FC, 3-0 at half time, but the Essex Olympian Premier side fought back strongly to score five second half goals to win 5-3.
Only one of four scheduled league matches in the Premier Division survived that saw Hatfield Peverel FC take the points against visiting Felixstowe & Walton FC U23s with a tight 3-2 victory that moves them up to 14th in the table. Felixstowe remain in the bottom two, four points adrift of Little Oakley FC Reserves, but with two games in hand.
In the second round of the Border Knock-Out Cup there were two ties that produced convincing wins for Premier Division sides.
Firstly, Barnston AFC beat fifth division High Roding FC 9-1, the goal spree was led by Stephen Smith, Michael Morgan, Oliver Coppersmith each with two goals with one each from Shane Pyne Adam Burton and Jordon Robertson. The solitary reply for the visitors came from substitute Sam Karr.
Sudbury Sports FC travelled to School Lane in the, all Premier clash and beat struggling Lawford Lads FC 7-1. The Sudbury scorers were Louie Arnold. Harvey Rawlinson, Brae Smith and two goals each from Oliver Hart and Benjamin Monteith–Weed. Jamie Calladine replied for the Lads.
In the First Division, Stanway Rovers FC U23s maintained their slender lead at the top with a comprehensive 5-0 win over struggling Coggeshall United FC Reserves with goals from Teddy Cowen, Thomas Lewis, Harry Thomas, and a double from Nathaniel Mardell. Second place Silver End FC consolidated their position with a 3-1 win at home to Mersea Island FC, but the biggest threat to the leaders will come from third place Belle Vue Social who comfortably defeated West Bergholt FC Reserves 4-1. They are three points behind but have a game in hand albeit with an inferior goal difference, their marksmen were Sam Cripps with three and Tom Halls. Cavendish FC also hit five without reply against Alresford Colne Rangers FC Reserves, Jack Durey, Ethan Mills, Seth Woodward, and a brace from Harry Ratcliffe-Bingham.
In Division Two Brightlingsea Town FC maintained their 100% record with a comfortable 6-0 win over Hatfield Peverel FC Reserves and are seemingly well set for promotion barring a complete loss of form. Kieron Baker hit three whilst Philip Burnett, Rhys Morley, and Ashley Sauka each scored once ensuring that they are well clear of third and fourth placed Great Bentley FC and Kelvedon Social FC who are twelve points behind. Thorpe Athletic FC are second trailing by eight points but have played three games more.
In Division Three, Wormingford Wanderers FC were involved in a Covid Cup match, but are well clear at the top with a 100% record of nine wins and with games in hand of their nearest rivals promotion seems inevitable.
