WEEKLY ROUND-UP for 21/01/2023

Sixteen games fell to the frosty conditions but eighteen survived and went ahead as planned, however, Clubs are reminded to follow Competition postponement rules.

Just one match in the Premier Division saw Hatfield Peverel beat Lawford Lads on their travels.

Two matches survived in Division One, Brightlingsea Town, capitalised to move further ahead, and Tiptree Jobserve kept pace when they beat Gosfield United and Holland Reserves respectively.

In Division Two, just one match that saw Alresford and Tiptree Jobserve Reserve teams battle out a draw, the hosts perhaps happier with the one point!

A close fought and competitive seven-goal thriller, in Division Three saw Frinton & Walton, three goals here for Hartley, in their first match since late November, overcome a spirited Barnston Reserve team. Ominously, the other match saw Gas Recreation move up to third and closer to the top especially as they have three games in hand over the inactive top two!

Of the matches played in Division Four, the top two, Roman Rovers and High Roding won again, notably, the latter team have three points yet to be awarded, so it will soon be neck-and-neck. Elsewhere, wins for Cavendish Reserves and Kelvedon Social Reserves, three first half goals for Washbrook, albeit over the bottom two teams saw them reach mid-table respectability.

There were three matches in Division Five, Oyster moved up to second with a resounding win against Brooklands, four goals for Dickson and three for substitute Gregoire. Ward hit four for Mersea Reserves against Bradfield Rovers Reserves and ten men Boxted Lodgers Reserves seemed to have just scrapped home against Roman Rovers Reserves.

There were no surprises in the Knock-Out competition, wins for Cavendish, Dovercourt Rovers, Chelmsford City Reserves and Dedham Old Boys whilst Stanway Rovers U23’s needed a penalty shoot-out to overcome Tavern from Division Two.
